Preparation for an Eye Examination Before LASIK
- Refrain from wearing contact lenses prior to the examination at least two weeks for hard or semi-hard lenses and three days for soft lenses. This way, the cornea can return to its normal shape, allowing an accurate analysis of the corneal topography.
- Have someone drive for you as the eye examination involves the use of dilating eye drops. This will affect your near vision and increase sensitivity to light for about 4-6 hours.
- Please bring your sunglasses.
- Certain medications such as acne drugs like Roaccutane, Acnotin, Isotane should be discontinued for at least one month prior to the eye examination due to its side effects like having dry eyes.
- After eye examination, if the patient can do Lasik , it will take about one hour preparation for the procedure and about 30 minutes in the operating room. After the procedure, patient can return straight home and have a follow up the next day with the doctor. Another one week, one month,3months and 1 year follow ups are done to observe stability of eyesight after laser vision correction.
